PFO Joins Adopt a School Initiative to Support the Next Generation in Construction

We’re proud to share that PFO has recently joined the Adopt a School initiative in partnership with CITB — a programme that connects local schools with construction companies to help young people explore future careers in the industry.

Last Friday, our HR & Talent Manager Darren Lynch (CertRP) visited De La Salle College, Belfast, to speak with Year 14 Engineering students about careers in construction, what employers look for, and how to take that first step after school.

Connecting Classroom to Career

De La Salle College has a strong reputation for supporting students as they prepare for the next stage of their education or career. The school’s focus on engineering and technical learning made it the perfect fit for a visit like this.

Darren’s session covered practical CV tips, advice on career pathways, and an inside look at what life in construction and fit-out is really like. The chat also gave students a chance to ask questions about roles across the industry — from design and project management to operations and trades — and how different skills come together on a project.

Encouraging Local Talent

At PFO, we know how important it is to show young people that there are strong, exciting career options right here in Northern Ireland. The construction and fit-out sector continues to grow, and there’s huge potential for students who are motivated, creative, and ready to learn.

Darren’s visit was all about making that connection — showing that the skills students develop in school can translate into real-world opportunities.

This session at De La Salle is just the start. PFO plans to continue working with local schools and CITB through the Adopt a School programme, supporting students as they explore where a career in construction could take them.

A big thanks to the staff and students at De La Salle College for the warm welcome and great conversation. We’re looking forward to more visits like this in the months ahead.
